We are seeking expressions of interest from people to work with children, young people and their families as Mentors with Life Without Barriers.

About the role

The purpose of the Mentoring and Personalised Support Services (MAPPS Worker) is to engage and support children and their families in northern Tasmania, across areas of child safety, mental health and education, and developing individually tailored goals and action plans aimed at addressing identified needs.  The MAPSS Worker proactively works with families to build capacity, identify strengths, and develop and maintain a positive parent - child relationship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing services to children, young people, adults and families working across child safety services, mental health, disability and education and developing individually tailored goals and action plans;
  • Providing timely reporting to applicable line manager including; outlining activities and progress toward identified goals.
  • Assisting program participant in accessing recreational, vocational and educational activities and life skill development in line with program participant plans and funding body agreements.
  • Promoting and encouraging positive relationships with peers and other persons significant to the program participant and develop and maintain social skills that assist in building personal networks;
  • With relevant training and close supervision; facilitate the delivery of the Parenting under Pressure (PUP) program including participant assessment;
  • Assisting the program participant in making choices and decisions about their personalised program delivery.

Skills & Experience

  • Current first aid certificate and drivers licence
  • Good oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of issues relating to children and young people with a disability, and children and young people with extreme behaviours and complex needs;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals, families and/or groups from strength-based culturally appropriate perspectives.

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and hold Tasmanian Working With Vulnerable People Registration.
