About the Team and Role:

An opportunity has become available for Senior Telecommunications Emergency Management Officer to join the Telecommunications team within NSW Telco Authority.

This role is part of the team in the NSW Telco Authority's Telecommunications Emergency Management function which is responsible for coordinating the telecommunications aspects of emergencies and incidents through the four phases of emergency management: prevention, preparation, response and recovery. The role will be responsible for providing operational and coordination support to the Authority, NSW Emergency Services Organisations, other Functional Areas and participating telecommunications carriers in emergency management.

The role is also responsible for leading a team, developing, implementing and improving procedures and guidelines. The role will also undertake projects and activities that enhance the capability and performance of the team during emergency operations. In the response and recovery phases of emergencies, you will provide critical advice in often high-pressured situations, to senior stakeholders, whilst remaining calm and considered. You will excel under pressure and will be confident in analysing operational intelligence and solving problems.

You will build credibility and relationships with Emergency Service Organisations that will maintain and uphold stakeholder confidence in the emergency management practice. You have proven experience of influencing a diverse and senior stakeholder group through your ability to communicate complex telecommunication concepts in clear and simple language.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Operate as a liaison officer at operations centres, being available and on-call 24/7 to participate in the response to actual and potential significant telecommunications service interruptions in NSW, to maintain network performance to meet user demand.
  • Provide leadership and actively participate in emergency operations, reviews and debriefs, coordination forums, and operational exercises, as required to ensure operational tasks are performed reliably and consistently.
  • Manage and develop stakeholder relationships through effective communication, negotiation, and issue management with internal and external stakeholders to support informed decision-making
  • Maintain and develop systems, processes, and equipment supporting the unit in providing highly effective and resilient response capabilities to ensure delivery of telecommunications systems within the framework established under organisational and divisional plans.

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

  • Ability working in fast paced environments with the ability to plan and organise tasks to meet deadlines and perform routine and complex tasks to prescribed standards.
  • Employment screening checks and willingness to obtain relevant security clearance vetting if required.
  • Willingness for Intra-state travel related to coordination of state-wide events
  • Available on a 24/7 rotating roster
  • Previous work in an operational environment
  • Previous experience within the Emergency Management Sector
