About us

 

Legal Aid NSW helps people with their legal problems. We can help people with most areas criminal law, family law and every day civil law legal issues. We give legal advice, help at court and do family dispute resolution. We can do this over the telephone or at one of our 28 offices.

The Disaster Response Legal Service (DRLS) is a specialist service within the Civil Law Division of Legal Aid NSW that provides legal assistance to communities across NSW as part of the government response to disasters. The DRLS provides targeted, trauma-informed legal services and specialises in everyday legal issues that arise following disasters. The DRLS model of service delivery is flexible, client centred and aims to mitigate the impact of disasters on individuals, families, and communities

 

About the role

 

The Community Engagement Officer is responsible for developing and managing stakeholder relationships to improve access to justice for people and communities impacted by disasters across NSW. They will assist in the development and delivery of community legal education (CLE) sessions and act as a conduit between disaster affected communities and solicitors in the DRLS to facilitate access to legal services.

 

About you

 

The successful applicant will be passionate about improving access to justice for people who have been impacted by disasters across NSW. You will have experience in developing and maintaining effective partnerships with key stakeholders and communities. You will have excellent organisation and communication skills, and be able to work collaboratively, and as part of a team. You will be a self-motivated and able to manage a diverse range of tasks. 

 

 

We may use this recruitment to create a talent pool for similar ongoing or temporary vacancies we have over the next 18 months.

The essential requirements for this role

 

You must:

 

·         be willing to do a Criminal Record Check 

·       hold Australian or NZ citizenship, Australian Permanent Residency (for ongoing vacancies) or a valid visa to work in Australia (for temporary vacancies)

·       Hold a current Driver Licence. 

·         Be able to travel to regional and remote areas, sometimes at short notice
