About the opportunity
The Portfolio Governance, Assurance and Reporting team has a high profile and importance within the Department. The programs of work overseen are key for delivering on the Department’s strategic objectives and the profile of the team is being elevated from July 2022.


Reporting to the Strategic Policy Portfolio Manager you will contribute to advice to the Secretary and Executive on your portfolio’s priorities, enabling the successful delivery of transformational programs that help to meet Education’s highest priorities.


The key duties of the roles include, but not limited to:

  •  Providing high level secretariat functions and support to an executive sub committee.
  • Working collaboratively with other Transformation teams and other divisional teams to ensure alignment of strategic portfolios to identify and develop best practice portfolio and management practices.
  • Maintenance of portfolio management, delivery and reporting.
  • Preparation of the strategic and operational documents such as briefing papers, discussion papers and responses to information requests.
  • Researching and analysing the provision of evidence-based, timely, relevant and actionable insights to decision makers.
  • Risk Assessment and support to clients implementing major projects and programs of work across the department.
  • Identifying and managing challenges which may impede effective delivery against strategic objectives and mitigate identified risks to deliver improved student and learner outcomes.

About the team

  • The recently established Portfolio Governance, Assurance and Reporting Team ensures appropriate Executive oversight and is the interface to the Secretary and Executive, through the Department’s Sub-Executive Committees and Executive Committee.
  • This team provides secretariat, portfolio management and support activities to contribute to the effective establishment and delivery of major reforms and change projects across the Department of Education.
  • The team is responsible for the design, development, implementation and management of a range of portfolio governance and delivery assurance processes for the Department’s major portfolios of priority programs and projects.
  • We are designing, testing and trialing new processes, methods and routines, which will involve working with key senior stakeholders across the Department to establish and drive delivery through the Executive and  Sub-Executive portfolios.

The ideal candidate will need to demonstrate:

  • Prior project, program and/or portfolio experience in a similar role and ready to step up to the next level or are seeking a new challenge.
  • Ability to thrive working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent project and communication/stakeholder management skills.
  • Capability to multi-task across different projects.
  • Demonstrate their understanding of project and program management methodologies and tools.
