Legal Aid NSW is the largest legal aid agency in Australia, comprising of a Central Sydney office and 26 regional offices in metropolitan and regional centres across NSW and a number of specialist services and advice clinics. ABOUT THE ROLE

The Solicitor in Charge has a strategic role in leading and managing a diverse team of staff (across busy crime, family and civil law practices, specialist and outreach services) and the day to day activities of the office to ensure:

• services are high quality, targeted and client-centred to meet the needs of socially and economically disadvantaged clients and communities

• key relationships are developed and maintained with government and community stakeholders and the private legal profession

• the efficient and effective use of resources including the supervision, training and development of all staff

• that the strategic and organisational priorities of Legal NSW are implemented at the local level.

The Solicitor in Charge provides leadership, expert advice and guidance to legal officers to ensure excellence in client service and compliance with Legal Aid NSW policies, guidelines and practice management standards. They conduct a legal practice as other commitments allow.

 

ABOUT YOU

You will be a highly experienced leader and legal professional specialising in crime, family and/or civil law. You will have a strong track record in leading large teams of lawyers, support staff and allied professionals. Ideally you will have had experience in developing and monitoring service delivery plans and managing change. You will have significant experience in the employment, supervision and leadership of legal staff.

 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Admission or eligibility for admission as a legal practitioner in NSW 

• Ability to provide a valid Practising Certificate upon commencement 

• Willingness to undertake a Criminal Record Check and/or working with Children Check

• Australian or NZ citizenship or Australian Permanent Resident is an essential requirement of applying for an ongoing role

• Current driver’s licence

  1. What skills and experience do you bring that are relevant to leading and managing a team of lawyers across a multidisciplinary team?
  2. How would you effectively manage and monitor service delivery for the whole regional (Lismore, Nowra or Wagga Wagga) Legal Aid office?

The selection process will include a range of comparative assessment techniques to assist in determining capability and suitability for the role.

This recruitment will be used to fill any current vacancies and may be used to create a Talent Pool for similar future temporary or ongoing vacancies that may arise over the next 18 months.
