ABOUT THE ROLE


Provide legal advice and representation to clients of Legal Aid NSW, including minor assistance and casework service, in accordance with legal Aid NSW policies and guidelines in order to contribute to the implementation of Legal Aid NSW's mission to deliver high quality legal services to our clients and to assist them to resolve their legal problems.


ABOUT YOU


The successful applicant will be passionate about the provision of legal services to disadvantaged people in regional and rural areas. You will have strong communication skills to enable interaction with a range of stakeholders and strive for exceptional service delivery. Applicants should be hardworking, a team player, have a passion for criminal law and a desire to learn new skills as well as expanding upon existing strengths. You would ideally have at least 1 year post admission experience in criminal law, and be prepared to conduct bail applications, sentence proceedings and defended hearings in the Local and Children's Court.

 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

 

• Admission or eligibility for admission as a legal practitioner in NSW 

 

• Ability to provide a valid Practising Certificate upon commencement 

 

• Willingness to undertake a Criminal Record Check and/or working with Children Check

 

• Hold Australian or NZ citizenship, Australian Permanent Resident or hold a valid working visa

1. What are the major challenges you are likely to encounter as a criminal defence solicitor in the Riverina/Murray at Legal Aid NSW? What experience and skills would you bring to the role to meet theses challenges?

 

2. Outline the 3 most significant capabilities from the Role description that you would use in conducting a busy and varied criminal law practice in the Riverina/Murray?


The selection process will include a range of comparative assessment techniques to assist in determining capability and suitability for the role.


This recruitment will be used to fill any current vacancies and may be used to create a Talent Pool for similar future vacancies that may arise over the next 18 months.
