The Education and Skills Reform (ESR) group drives innovation, reform and policy development based on strategic analysis and evaluation, aligned with external relations for the whole Education system.

ESR delivers critical policy, programs, and reform to improve outcomes in K-12 schooling and tertiary education. This includes responsibility for policy, evidence and research about effective practice, design, delivering and monitoring of programs in line with that evidence base, and collaboration and partnership with other agencies, governments and organisations.

We hold responsibility for securing national and state funding for education and skills, distribute funding to non-government schools, deliver education pathways support and improvement, lead data and evidence for the Department, and manage government funded vocational education for NSW. We have a strong focus on equity, including for regional, rural, and remote learners in NSW.

About the role


The Director, Data Analytics and Insights role sits within the Centre for Education Statistics and Evaluation (CESE) reporting to the Chief Data Officer. CESE stands at the forefront of advancing excellence in evidence, insights, and policy to support data-driven decision making, so every student learns, grows and belongs in an equitable and outstanding education system. 

As Australia?s first hub for education data and evaluation across early childhood, schooling, training and higher education, CESE is dedicated to identifying what works best, to ultimately make a difference for all learners.

The Director, Data Analytics and Insights is responsible for a team of around 50 staff leading and developing tactical plans and initiatives to develop in-depth data analytics and reports, dashboards and metric reporting prototype systems; as well as the management of data collection and responsible use of data within the Department to support School-based decision and policy making. 


The role accountabilities will include:
? Oversee the department?s data expertise in analytics, new prototype systems and dashboards, metric reporting and data collection to support evidence-based decision-making across the department and inform strategic priorities.
? Foster team capability and agility so that team members can be independent subject matters experts, and when needed outposted across the department, to conduct data analysis and business recommendations for other divisions.
? Implement strategic plans and optimise operational performance with appropriate controls and processes across the division to ensure the department?s commitment to school improvement and other critical priorities to reflect Government, Cluster and department frameworks, policies and guidelines.

About you


You will possess exceptional leadership skills to drive and evaluate operational performance outcomes which contribute to the achievement of the division?s strategy. Your dynamism, drive, intellectual rigour, team leadership track-record and excellent communication and representational skills underpin your ability to harness collaborative relationships and achieve results.

To be successful in this role, you will have:
? Sound commercial acumen with experience in data analysis and collection, forecasting, reporting and operational planning.
? A collaborative working style with the ability to coach and mentor people. 
? Demonstrated extensive experience at a senior level in the management of a large complex organisation
? Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department?s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department?s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people
? Appropriate tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as data and analytics; education, business, finance, management, social sciences or communications, and/or equivalent knowledge and experience.
? Hold a valid clearance to work with children (Working with Children Check) or ability to obtain.
? Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education
