About the role

The purpose of this role is to lead financial, operational, governance and strategic efforts to ensure OCG is set up for success and can reach their long-term goals

The Director, Corporate Services will provide strategic, timely and relevant information and advice to the Children's Guardian and the Executive Leadership Team and oversee the day-to-day operations to ensure efficient and effective delivery of financial management, compliance and risk management, communications, technology and office support services.

We are seeking an experienced and authentic leader to:

  • Contribute to leadership and effective governance as a member of the Executive, participating in business and strategic planning, setting key priorities and targets; advocating new approaches to organisational outcomes informed by quality, expert advice, evidence and professional knowledge.
  • Provide timely and expert strategic advice to the Children's Guardian and other executives on the OCG's change management strategies and other significant activities to deliver the OCG of the future.
  • Identify emerging issues, risks and opportunities and provide timely, relevant information and advice to senior management and others, to facilitate informed decision making.
  • Ensure the budget is appropriately developed and negotiated to meet the needs and sustained financial viability of the OCG. Ensure that it operates within its approved net cost of services limit, without any negative impact across the forward estimates.
  • Lead governance and compliance efforts and reporting responsibilities liaising with the Guardian and Board on our regulatory requirements.
  • Lead, support and develop a multi-disciplinary team fostering a workplace culture that is supportive and committed to continuous improvement.

Key knowledge and experience

  • Demonstrated success in leading and managing at a senior level, as well as extensive knowledge of organisation wide services and systems in a public sector environment.
  • Exceptional understanding and knowledge of relevant legislation, professional standards and policies, practices and processes as they relate to each of the business services areas in the portfolio.
  • Proven ability with annual budget/financial year end processes together with the ability to analyse financial data and present it in a clear way.

Essential Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or extensive equivalent professional experience.
  • All roles associated with the Office of the Children's Guardian are required to have a current Working with Children Check.
  • Employment at the Office of the Children's Guardian is subject to the satisfactory completion of security and vetting checks.
