About the Office of Children's Guardian

We are guided by our values of integrity, trust, service, accountability, respect and empathy.

About the NDIS Worker Check Directorate

The NDIS Worker Check is a division of the OCG. It operates under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (Worker Checks) Act 2018 (NSW). It screens workers that provide services and supports to people with disability (adults and children) under the NDIS. It aims to support people with disability by preventing workers that pose a risk of harm from working with them. We gather information about a person's history, such as their criminal and workplace records, and undertake an assessment as to whether they pose a risk of harm.

About the role

The role coordinates and develops an Assessment Team to review information and make recommendations about whether there is a risk of harm to people with disability (NDIS participants). Specifically, the role manages a team who review the criminal, workplace and other records of applicants. It applies our record categorisation framework, marks-up the records, makes preliminary information requests, and determines whether to issue a clearance or send the application for risk assessment.

It is responsible for ensuring the team makes consistent, considered and evidence-based recommendations based on the record history information of applicants. It allocates and approves work, provides advice and guidance, develops capabilities and competency and ensures compliance with relevant legislation, business policies and procedures.

The role requires someone who is considered and decisive, technically competent, and has strong people management and customer service skills.

We are seeking a motivated and resilient employee to perform the following:

  • Manage the day-to-day performance of an Assessment Team and provide direction, support and guidance to staff to ensure decisions are considered and timely.
  • Develop the skills, knowledge and competency of Assessment Officers to ensure quality outcomes, consistency across the team and compliance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Manage complex, sensitive issues while being able to respond effectively and accurately in a high-volume work environment.

This is an ongoing role in accordance with the Government Sector Employment Act 2013.

Key knowledge and experience

  • Experience in administrative or regulatory decision making is preferred, but not essential.
  • Experience in the management and development of staff is preferred, but not essential.

Essential Requirements

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and/or extensive relevant workplace experience is required.
  • All roles associated with the Office of the Children's Guardian are required to have a current Working With Children Check.
  • Employment at the Office of the Children's Guardian is subject to the satisfactory completion of security and vetting checks.

For a copy of the role description, please contact the OCG People and Culture team via OCG.HR@ocg.nsw.gov.au and outline the role you are applying for.Our commitment to Diversity

We welcome and encourage applications from people across our diverse community, especially from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants. We believe everyone has the right to feel safe, respected, valued and heard regardless of their gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity or disability.

The OCG encourages applications from people with disability and will provide reasonable adjustments in our recruitment processes and in the workplace.

How to apply

When applying you will need to attach a cover letter (maximum 2 pages) which states your claims against the capabilities for the role. You also need to address the two targeted questions below (maximum 1 page total for both). You also need to provide an up-to-date resume (maximum 4 pages) in either Word or PDF format.

We are looking for you to demonstrate your competence in the focus capabilities as outlined in the role description, so please develop your response with this in mind.

Targeted questions

  1. Describe a set of circumstances that resulted in a particularly difficult or sensitive conversation with a customer or colleague. What were the issues/challenges and what was your approach to resolving these issues?
  2. Provide an example of a time when your performance resulted in timely and quality outcomes. In your answer, please outline the steps you took in achieving the outcome and whether you could have done anything differently.

Note: the selection process will include a range of assessment techniques to assist in determining your suitability for the role.

Any questions, or if you require an adjustment in the recruitment process due to disability, please contact Leigh Scanlon, Manager NDIS Worker Check at leigh.scanlon@ndiswc.nsw.gov.au.

Applications closing date: Wednesday, 22 May 2024 at 10:00am
