Project Officer - Victims Services
Job Reference: 43666
Support the development, implementation and evaluation of policies, programs, initiatives and reforms to better support victims of violent crimes in NSW.
Agency overview
Communities and Justice (DCJ) enables services to better work together to support everyone’s right to access justice, support families and strengthen/bolster the promotion of early intervention and inclusion, with benefits for the whole community.
Victims Services administers the Victims’ Rights and Support Act 2013. We provide access to counselling and financial assistance to victims of violent crime in NSW under the Victims Support Scheme, promote the Charter of Victims’ Rights and deliver related programs.
Victims Services also hosts the Redress Central Coordination Team, which facilitates the NSW government’s participation in the National Redress Scheme for institutional child sexual abuse. The National Redress Scheme, run by the Commonwealth, provides people who experienced institutional child sexual abuse with a monetary payment, counselling and direct personal response (apology). The Victims Services Redress Team is the conduit between the National Redress Scheme and NSW Government agencies. It facilitates Requests for Information (RFIs) in relation to applicants alleging abuse by/in a NSW government institution.
The team also oversees governance arrangements for the NSW Government's participation in the Scheme and works with survivors who have accepted redress and are seeking support for counselling and a Direct Personal Response (apology).

The role also pro-actively engages with both the National Redress Scheme and NSW Government agencies regarding outstanding RFIs and emerging operational issues, manages extension requests, identifies training needs and delivers training as needed.
To succeed in this role, you will need to be competent preparing and delivering communications to varied audiences, and able to balance competing demands, whilst building strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
Note: The role involves reading content relating to child sexual abuse and occasionally engaging directly with survivors of institutional child sexual abuse over the phone. Employees of Victims Services have access to DCJ’s Employee Assistance Program as well as debriefing sessions, as required.
