About us

Legal Aid NSW is a state-wide independent government agency that helps people in NSW with their legal problems. Legal Aid NSW provides legal information to anyone with a legal problem in NSW through our legal information and referral service, LawAccess NSW.

We support people with all kinds of legal problems. We help with criminal law matters involving the police, family law matters involving children or a relationship breakdown, and civil law matters where you are having trouble with a fundamental need like housing, income support or access to health and disability supports.

We are the largest legal aid commission in Australia and employ over 1600 employees.

About the role

The Senior Advisor, Workplace Standards, is responsible for providing accurate and timely advice on workplace conduct and performance issues, industrial and employee relations, and dispute resolution policy and strategies.

This role is varied and not one day looks the same. If you enjoy a diverse range of work and can adapt to change, then you will excel in this role.

We are a small team so you will be exposed to a wide variety of responsibilities and be empowered to gain new skills and knowledge.

About you

We are looking for people with an interest and demonstrated experience in employee relations and workplace conduct and ethics. You are motivated to improve workplace culture and take a multidisciplinary approach where possible. You will be required to work with a degree of autonomy and can take a nuanced approach to issues.

We want to engage a compassionate and clear communicator with an ability to demonstrate tact and a strong commitment to inclusion and equity. You are open to exploring alternate responses to complaint handling and resolution.

An understanding of all human resource functions is an advantage but not essential.

We may use this recruitment to create a talent pool for similar ongoing or temporary vacancies we have over the next 18 months.

WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN LEGAL AID NSW!

We are committed to diversity and inclusion

We are committed to creating a culturally safe and genuinely inclusive organisation and workplace for everyone who works and interacts with us. We strive to be a place where people from diverse backgrounds want to work, where voices and cultures are valued and where people feel valued, welcomed, respected and heard.

We want a workforce that reflects our clients, so we can deliver a service that meets the needs of the community. We welcome applications from people with diverse backgrounds — including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, the LGBTQI+ community, culturally diverse people and other diverse communities.

We acknowledge, support and accommodate the diverse access needs of people with visible and invisible disabilities. If you need an adjustment to participate in the recruitment process, or you’d like information about what we can do to help you, please contact our team at erecruitment@legalaid.nsw.gov.au.

Other benefits of working with us

·       You will have access to training, development and mentoring opportunities.

·       We are an accredited Flex Ready certified employer and are recognised as leaders in the area of flexible work. Most of our staff work flexibly — for example, from home some of the time or in a way that helps them balance family and work life.

Your application must include:

·       your resume (no more than 5 pages)
