Caring for our city, creating a future for all

Our people are passionate about their communities and connected to their teams. They’re motivated by our genuine commitment to diversity and inclusion, and our clear, compelling plan for our global city: Sustainable Sydney 2030 – 2050 Continuing the Vision.

Be part of a purpose-led organisation, with care at its core. You’ll make a difference by acting in the best interests of our communities and city. Be better together with collaborative and inclusive partnerships. Embrace possibilities and be open to new ideas and creating bold solutions.

A rare opportunity is available for two (2) qualified, experienced and enthusiastic certifiers to join the Building Certification Team as Senior Building Surveyors.  The team primarily processes applications for alterations and additions to all classes of buildings as well as large volumes of temporary structures located on public land.  The team prides itself on it’s dedicated, positive, and collaborative culture where individual effort is part of something much bigger – creating great things for our city’s dynamic future.

In this role you will draw upon your demonstrated experience to:

  • assess applications for construction, complying development and occupation certificates for all classes of development
  • carry out critical stage inspection and assessment functions as the appointed principal certifier
  • provide technical support for other staff in the team related to BCA, legislative compliance, and temporary structure approvals
  • assess applications for construction hoardings and other activities on the public way under the Local Government Act 1993 and Roads Act 1993 and Council policies
  • provide internal building related advice to assist in the determination of development applications.

To be successful you will have:

  • tertiary qualifications in building surveying or other related discipline
  • currently hold a class of registration of ‘Building Surveyor – Unrestricted’ under the Building and Development Certifiers Act 2018
  • recent experience (within the past 5 years) undertaking building certification functions in the capacity of a registered certifier in either a Local Government or private practice setting
  • knowledge of NSW legislation relating to development and building control and the National Construction Code.

To apply: Upload your resume and respond to the application questions to show how you meet the role’s requirements. Select 'Apply' to complete your online application.

The successful applicant is required to complete a pre-employment health declaration and national criminal check.

Applications must be submitted online by 11.59pm, Sunday 31 March 2024.
