We are looking for an engaging, dynamic and motivated person to fill the roles of Senior Project Officer.

Practice Learning Unit sits within the Office of the Senior Practitioner (OSP). Practice Learning is responsible for the strategic learning and development needs of practitioners in order to develop, inspire and support child protection practice to build genuine relationships with families and the sector, keep children safe and achieve positive outcomes for families. The Practice Learning programmes build capacity in our workforce so to continuously improve child protection services to children and their families so that children experience sustained safety, permanency and wellbeing.

The Role

Caseworker Development Program- targeted permanent position:

The Senior Project Officer will be responsible for working in a team to deliver the Caseworker Development Program, the foundation level learning program for new child protection caseworkers who start with DCJ. The role involves the facilitating of training workshops to new caseworkers, coaching program participants in weekly group learning sessions and working with districts and other key stakeholders to give new caseworkers the best chance of completing the program successfully.

Practice Learning, Implementation Team- targeted 12 month temporary position:

The Senior Project Officer will be a part of a small team responsible for implementing a range of learning programs and projects across the State. The main duties include facilitation of learning programmes across the state, planning and coordination of the annual Practice Conference, and supporting the implementation of other upcoming learning programs for Practice Learning and OSP. Some travel across the state will be required for this role. The role involves facilitation, coaching, consultation and case review, as well as working closely with CSC leaders and practitioners, and Practice & Permanency Support to implement learning programs in districts.

The OSP and Practice Learning, Implementation team are committed to leading programs and learning spaces that are culturally safe, uphold cultural strength and acknowledge the ongoing generational pain of Aboriginal people. Healing, hope and recovery led by Aboriginal people is fundamental to changing the practice culture of child protection work and as such, this targeted position will be provided the time and support to;

• provide key cultural consultation and critique to the Practice Learning unit in the design, development and implementation of strategic learning programs.

• promote Aboriginal led and self-determined strategies in response to agency learning needs.

• contribute culture to learning and development of practitioners and practice quality.

• promote cultural safety in all learning programs and provide advice as to how learning programs work for Aboriginal practitioners, children and families.

What you need

You will need to demonstrate:

• An understanding of the services delivered by DCJ.

• Demonstrated ability to develop relationships and engage effectively with relevant stakeholders, particularly Aboriginal communities.

• Excellent interpersonal skills – ability to facilitate meetings/workshops with a diverse range of stakeholders.

• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement projects.

• Highly developed organisational skills.

• A high degree of independence and initiative.

You also need to be able to work well under pressure and thrive in a high-paced work environment, have well developed problem-solving skills and demonstrated use of IT applications including Microsoft Office. Some travelling is required.

Essential Requirements of the role

• Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline and/or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience with demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.

• The Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012 requires persons engaged in children related work to have Working with Children Check (WWCC) clearance. If successful in this role you will be required to provide a WWCC clearance number prior to commencing in the role.
